Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced that Kenyans giving birth abroad will be required to undergo DNA tests once they return to the country.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 5 while appearing before the Senate, CS Mutua said the move to check whether the DNA of the parents matches with that of the kids and avoid child trafficking incidents.
The Labour CS also noted that the government is in the process of repatriating the Kenyans and their children.
“We have got quite a number of Kenyans in some countries who have given birth. We are trying to get them back home with their children. Once they are here we will do a DNA test to match the child to the mother to avoid child trafficking,” said Mutua.
At the same time, CS Mutua said the government has provided distress reporting tools and phone numbers to Kenyan citizens living in foreign nations in case they face challenges.

“We have provided distress reporting tools and phone numbers that are provided for Kenyans which are available on our website. If you have any distress you call this number,” the Labour CS stated.
Mutua also said the government has posted labour attaches to Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Qatar, UAE, and Germany.
He mentioned that the government will post new attaches in three months but they require a budget of about Ksh300 million.
“I am changing the labour attaches and we are posting new ones within the next two to three months but to require a budget of about Ksh300 million to send them,” Mutua added.
