"We will ensure that Ibrahim's death is not in vain and that justice is served."

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan has demanded justice for a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly shot by a police officer in Majengo, Nairobi.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 5, the MP said the teenager, identified as Ibrahim Ramadhan, succumbed to his injuries after being shot in the head on Tuesday evening.

“The senseless killing of Ibrahim Ramadhan, a 16-year-old youth with disabilities, is a tragedy that deeply saddens and angers me. I strongly condemn the murder of Ibrahim, who was shot in the head by a police officer in Majengo yesterday evening and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. His life, full of potential, was cruelly cut short," he said.

Hassan described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of police violence and called for urgent action to address the issue.

The lawmaker urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the matter.

“This is not an isolated incident. Ibrahim's death highlights the urgent need for accountability and justice within the national police service. I demand a swift and thorough investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) into this horrific act. The officer responsible must be apprehended and held accountable for his actions,” he said.

While extending his condolences to the bereaved family, Hassan promised to pursue the matter and have justice served.

"My heart goes out to Ibrahim's mother, Hadija, and the rest of his family. They are in my thoughts during this difficult time. We will ensure that Ibrahim's death is not in vain and that justice is served," he concluded.

Following this incident, chaos broke out in Majengo on Wednesday morning, leading to massive destruction of property including two police vehicles.

The irate residents lit bonfires and barricaded roads in the area, bringing business to a standstill in Gikomba market.

A section of the protestors stormed the area chief’s office and set it on fire before torching houses belonging to the police.

During the police operation that led to Ramadhan's death, it is reported that police officers had stopped a group of youths for a random search on suspicion of drug trafficking.

However, a targeted suspect who was part of the group raised an alarm and called for help from another group that was approaching the scene.

The group reportedly attacked and chased the officers, forcing one of the officers to open fire for protection.

As a result, a 17-year-old was struck in the head by a bullet and succumbed to his injuries moments after being rushed to the hospital.
