According to the detectives, the househelp had hidden Ksh800,000 at her rented apartment in South B.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has narrated how a 22-year-old househelp stole Ksh2.2 million from her employer's house in Nairobi.

As detailed in the report on Sunday, March 30, Fleviar Anaya was left in the house with her employer on March 16, 2025. After her boss had left, she went into the master bedroom and made way with Ksh2.2 million.

She then put the money in a carrier bag and made her way out of the compound. To avoid any suspicion, she told the guard at the gate that she was making some deliveries to her boss.

However, the security guard noticed that something was amiss and called the employer.

"Sensing something was not right, since she(the employer) had not given such instructions, she quickly tried to reach her house help, only to find the phone switched off," the DCI wrote.

"Rushing back home, panic turned into horror when she discovered that Ksh2.2 million she had kept safely in her bedroom had vanished, just like her househelp."

The matter was then reported to the police, even as a team of detectives was deployed to track her down.

Following on leads, detectives tracked the househelp down in Kakamega County, where she was arrested and questioned.

Eventually, she led the detectives to her mother's home in Vihiga County, where Ksh70,000 was recovered. Detectives also recovered three chain links that had been bought using the stolen money at a separate location.

"Muhonja further led detectives to Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo area, where an additional ksh800,000 was recovered from her rented house," DCI added.

"Now in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, Muhonja is undergoing processing as she awaits her day in court."
