Philip Aroko has come forward to address reports linking him to the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
Speaking on Wednesday, May 7, Aroko stated that he is ready to cooperate with investigators and has nothing to hide.
In a video, he affirmed his willingness to engage with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the matter.
"I saw that I'm a person of interest in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were. I've been around, my phone has been on and I'm ready for anything; I don't fear being summoned by the DCI.
"It's normal, I want to hear what they have against me and I'll also respond to anything that is relevant," he said.

Aroko added," The situation that we are in is very unfortunate. I want to leave the police to do their job, they summoned me to come and I am here. I want to tell the people of Homa Bay County that the politics in that county has been turned to madness; it is not politics, it is thuggery. I saw the Governor pushing so much for me to be called here; she is even making calls to the police for me to be called here to make a statement."
Aroko's lawyer, Danstan Omari, also dismissed claims that Aroko was being sought by the DCI, insisting his client had been conducting his business in the open and was not in hiding.
"My client's phone has been on; he has been doing his business and has nothing to hide. There is no way the DCI can say that they are looking for Philip.
"He is available, and in less than 20 minute,s I shall be taking him to the Gigiri DCI office for him to report. This is a law-abiding citizen," Omari stated.

Earlier Wednesday, the DCI released a photograph of Aroko, noting that he was wanted in connection with Were's murder.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” the statement read.
Additionally, the DCI is also calling on members of the public to assist in the manhunt, urging anyone with information on Aroko’s whereabouts to step forward.
"We also appeal to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or use our toll-free numbers: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203). All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the statement added.
