The technician revealed that he was paid Ksh3,000 to tamper with the footage.

New details have emerged on how a technician based in Nairobi was paid to delete the CCTV footage of the Central Police Station following the death of Albert Ojwang.

In reports that emerged on Friday, June 13, the technician revealed that he was paid Ksh3,000 to delete the footage.

The footage is believed to have captured the events at the police station when Ojwang was killed.

Following his involvement in the case, the 23-year-old technician was arrested by police at his home in Nairobi and is expected to help IPOA investigate the matter.

While appearing before the National Assembly's Security Committee on Thursday, IPOA revealed that the CCTV footage on that particular day was erased in an attempt to conceal what happened at the station.

According to IPOA chair Issack Hassan, the technician was asked to delete part of the footage; however, given that it was impossible, they decided to delete the entire footage.

“Somebody called someone to come and switch off a particular section, but he said he could only shut down the entire system. The DVR logs indicated that the operating discs had been changed and formatted,” he stated.

While it is now evident that Ojwang was killed, the task of IPOA will be to determine where the teacher was assaulted and killed.

While the National Police Service (NPS) is pointing the finger at the Central Police Station, some of the officers at the station claim that the deceased was brought in after being beaten up.

“It has further been confirmed that before the booking, the report office personnel called the OCS, and unfortunately, it is being said that he (Taalam) declined to book the suspect,” DCI boss Mohamed Amin.

“Taalam is the Officer Commanding Central Police Station, and from the totality of things, he should be treated as the prime suspect in the matter.”

Meanwhile, James Mukhwana of Central Police Station was arrested on Thursday following the investigations into the murder of Ojwang.
