Basic Education PS Julius Bitok has attributed the recent government decision to rebrand the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) to the need for having comprehensive education model.
Speaking in Uasin Gichu County on Friday, June 13, the PS noted that the CBC had been rebranded to CBE, an acronym for Competency-Based Education.
Unlike CBC, the PS stated that CBE encompassed other factors such as classrooms, teachers, and quality assurance, among others.
"Recently, when we had a national conversation, we branded CBC to be CBE. CBC was the curriculum and the entry point, which we started 9 years ago," he stated.
"When we came to the national conversation, we decided that we need to go beyond the curriculum and look at other things like the classroom, teachers, and quality assurance."

"This education system is the best in the world. It is a hybrid and borrows from Finland, Canada, the US, and the UK. It also takes a little bit of Kenyan culture," the PS expressed.
"CBE is not about exams. It is about the talent of the child. That is why we are putting measures to transition our children from Grade 9 to Grade 10."
Bitok also announced that plans were underway to assist Grade 9 students choose their career paths and their schools of choice ahead of the transition to Senior Secondary School (SSS) next year.
Additionally, he noted that the government would be employing an additional 24,000 teachers before the end of the year.
