The minority leader of the Kakamega County Assembly emerged victorious in the primaries.

Ryan Injendi's dream to succeed his father as the Malava MP was shattered on Saturday, September 20, after he was trounced in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries.

Ryan is a son of the late Malulu Injendi, who served as Kabras MP from 2013 until 2025 when he died.

Two-time Kabras West ward representative David Ndakwa garnered 6,477 votes to route Injendi who secured 3,783 votes.

Ndakwa is the current Minority Leader in the Kakamega County Assembly.

He will now face off with Seth Panyako, who was recently handed a direct ticket by the Democratic Action Part of Kenya (DAP-K).

UDA is keen on recapturing the seat after Injendi's demise earlier in the year.

The MP had been elected on an ANC party ticket in all the electoral cycles.

ANC however folded to merge into the UDA party.

The by-election has been scheduled on November 27 this year.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted the by-election among 23 others in other parts of the country.

Malava is among the six constituencies awaiting mini-polls later in November.

Others are Kasipul, Ugunja, Banissa, Mbeere North and Magarini.

At the ward level, voters will head to the polls in Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), and Kariobangi North (Nairobi City).

Other wards with vacancies include Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko (Kajiado), and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).
