The 41-year-old woman had swallowed pellets of substance to outwit the detectives on her way to Dubai.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have nabbed a Kenyan woman en route to Dubai with pellets of Cocaine.

The sleuths preliminarily established that she was trafficking it to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the DCI, the lady, named Anna Nekesa Kisaka, was awaiting take-off when an officer intercepted her and insisted on a seprate screening.

"Acting on instinct and intelligence, flagged her for an additional screening. Their suspicions were correct; scans revealed she was carrying the illicit cargo inside her," the DCI's statement on Saturday, October 4, partly read.

She was found to have swallowed three pellets of the substance in a bid to cheat the officials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The 41-year-old was later placed under the watch of detectives and medical specialists and made to excrete the substances.

She was thereafter arrested and placed in custody ahead of a her arraignment.

Anna Nekesa (inset) was arrested just before takeoff to Dubai.

The incident comes months after another Kenyan was rescued from death penalty after being convicted of drug trafficking in Vietnam.

It was on July 31 when Margaret Nduta had her death sentence annulled by the Supreme Court in Hanoi.

The court reduced her sentence to life imprisonment, providing some relief to her family.

The decision granted her the latitude to request clemency from the Vietnamese president, a process that will remain uncertain but could potentially lead to her repatriation to Kenya.

Nduta was arrested in July 2023 at Ho Chi Minh City airport while transiting to Laos.

Vietnamese officials discovered two kilograms of cocaine concealed in a hidden compartment in her suitcase.

During Nduta's trial, the court heard that the 37-year-old was hired by another Kenyan to carry a suitcase to Laos, an Asian country.

The charges indicated that she was told to deliver the suitcase to a woman in Laos and then return with certain unspecified items.

She was paid approximately $1,300 (around Ksh168,000) for this job, with all her travel costs, including airfare, covered.

Vietnamese officials reported that her trip involved transit through several countries before she reached Ho Chi Minh City on July 14, 2023.

Because of a delayed arrival, airport personnel helped her complete immigration formalities so they could assist in booking her onward flight to Laos.

During this process, customs agents found over two kilograms of illegal drugs hidden inside a secret compartment in her suitcase.

In her defence, Nduta maintained that she was unaware of the drugs inside the luggage when she accepted it.

The prosecution however dismissed her line of defencem arguing that she was aware of the repercussions of her actions and that the court ought to penalise her.

The court sentenced her in March this year, but the intervention of the Kenyan government would come to save her from the death sentence.
