The high court has granted Nancy Kigunzu Indoveria, popularly known as Mathe Wa Ngara, a bond of Ksh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The High Court has set aside a ruling that denied Nancy Kigunzu Indoveria, popularly known as Mathe wa Ngara, a bond.

In a ruling on Wednesday, November 19, Justice James Wakiaga granted Mathe Wa Ngara a bond of Ksh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

Justice Wakiaga also ordered the accused to report to the investigating officer every 30 days.

The court further cautioned Mathe wa Ngara against engaging in any similar offence while she is out on bond.

In September 2024, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Magistrate Renee Kitangwa denied Mathe wa Ngara a bond.

The Magistrate, however, granted a bond of Ksh1 million to her co-accused, David Ochieng and Christopher Odipo, with a surety of the same amount.

Mathe Wa Ngara was first arrested by Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in August 2023, and large quantities of bhang and Ksh13.4 million in cash were seized.

She was freed on December 21, 2023, on a Ksh1 million cash bail and ordered to surrender her passport to the court.

The Court on April 30, 2024,  ruled that the Ksh13.4 million seized from Mathe wa Ngara be forfeited to the state.

This was after she failed to explain to the court the source of the money and why she had kept the millions in sacks in her home instead of taking them to the bank.

“An order is hereby made declaring that the sum of Kenya Shillings 13,474,520 found at the respondent’s residence but in custody of the Central Bank of Kenya is proceeds of crime and therefore liable to forfeiture to the Government of Kenya,” Justice Esther Maina ruled.

On August 9, 2024, Mathe wa Ngara was again arrested at Georgina Apartments in Juja, Kiambu County in possession of 189,300 grams of bhang with a market value of over Ksh5.6 million.

She was apprehended alongside Ochieng and Odipo.
