Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned the violence witnessed during the November 27 by-elections.

Speaking on Friday, November 28, Murkomen assured the country that security agencies are already pursuing those behind the unrest.

He said the government would not tolerate politically instigated chaos and insisted that all culprits will face the law.

"We have taken note of isolated incidents of violence perpetrated by political goons in yesterday's by-elections.

"Security agencies have already swung into action, and all the perpetrators and their sponsors will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law," he said.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) reported that officers in Khwisero disrupted an attempt to ferry weapons into a polling region. 

Police said the discovery was made during routine patrols in the Kisa East Ward, where officers intercepted a vehicle carrying crude weapons.

"Police officers in Khwisero intercepted a white Toyota Hilux (registration KCM 707J) carrying a cache of weapons, including stones and clubs, in the Munjiti area while on patrol during the Kisa East Ward by-election," the NPS said.

The police added that the suspects found in the vehicle had been detained as investigations continue.

"The officers arrested four suspects, who were escorted to the police station and placed in custody. They are awaiting processing and arraignment in court," the NPS added.

Elsewhere, NPS disclosed that an extensive manhunt had been launched after Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was attacked at Agoro Sare Primary School polling station during the Kasipul Constituency by-election. 

In a statement, the police said the operation led to several arrests and the recovery of weapons.

"Following the attack on Hon. Peter Kaluma at Agoro Sare Primary School polling station during the Kasipul Constituency by-election yesterday, 27th November 2025, police launched an intensive manhunt for the suspected perpetrators," the statement read.

NPS added that multiple suspects were apprehended after a search on vehicles and motorcycles.

"During the operation, officers intercepted five vehicles and two motorcycles. A thorough search led to the arrest of sixteen suspected armed thugs, who were found in possession of ten pangas, five knives, along with rungus and stones," the statement added.

According to NPS, all suspects arrested across the operations are being held in custody pending arraignment in court as investigations continue.
