Uhuru Joins Leaders in Mourning Martha Karua’s Father

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with PLP Party leader Martha Karua and her family following the death of her father, Jackson Karua. 

In a statement on Monday, September 28, Uhuru eulogized the late Mwalimu Karua as a man whose life was marked by principled leadership, dedication to education, strong character, and love for his family.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hon Martha Karua and the entire Karua family following the passing of her beloved father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.

“I join the family in mourning a man whose life was defined by principled leadership, dedication to education, strong character and deep love for his family,” read part of the statement. 

Uhuru noted that the late Mwalimu Karua’s values, wisdom and guidance leave an enduring legacy that will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren and all those whose lives he touched.

The former Head of State also prayed to Karua’s family for strength, comfort and peace following the loss. 

“At this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are that the Karua family finds strength, comfort and peace in the memories they shared with him and in the enduring legacy he leaves behind. May Mzee's soul rest in eternal peace,” added Uhuru. 

Mwalimu Karua passed away on Sunday, September 27, at his home in Kirinyaga County. 

In a statement, Karua said her father died after she and her siblings visited him. She mentioned that they spent time with him and sang one of his favorite gospel hymns, unaware that it would be their final time together. 

Karua said she received the news of her father's death while travelling back to Nairobi.

"On my way back to Nairobi, I received the news that my beloved father had breathed his last," she stated. 

President William Ruto mourned Mwalimu Karua, describing him as a teacher who dedicated his life to serving others and whose work touched generations. 

"I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of Martha Karua. Mwalimu Karua devoted his life to teaching and service, touching generations through his work and leaving a lasting impact on many lives," he wrote. 

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on his part, remembered Mwalimu Karua as an individual who played a pivotal role in shaping lives through teaching and contributed significantly to post-independence Kenya.

“My family and I join you at this difficult moment and deeply console with you and all your relatives, friends, and the people of Kenya on the loss of your dad. Kindly receive my deepest sympathies at this difficult moment. I pray that the Lord God rests the soul of your dad in eternal peace.

"Your dad was pivotal in shaping the lives he touched as a teacher and in raising a great patriot in Martha Karua and your siblings, whose contribution to our post-independence Kenya remains strong in the years to come," said Gachagua.
