The family of Ivy Wangeci, a 6th year Moi University medical student who was hacked to death outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret to wait longer for justice.

The family of Ivy Wangeci, a sixth year Moi University medicine trainee who was hacked to death by her boyfriend in 2019, is set to wait longer for justice.

This is after the hearing was postponed for the fifth time after the defence lawyer cited frustration by his client, the accused, Naftali Kinuthia.

Kinuthia was charged for planning and executing the brutal murder of Wangeci outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on April 9, 2019.

It was alleged that the suspect killed the medical student while she was leaving MTRH after making ward rounds.

Winfred King'ori, Wangeci's mother demanded that the case be heard once and for so she may get justice for her deceased daughter.

"We spend between Ksh60,000 and Ksh100,000 every trip to bring these witnesses. Emotionally and financially nobody seems to care what we as the victim's family are going through," she said.

Accompanied by her family lawyer Kiroko Ndegwa, Mrs. King'oro appealed that the case be expedited as to grant the family closure in the matter.

The case was postponed after the defence lawyer Henry Kenei withdrew from the case.

Daily Nation on May 29, reported that Kenei claimed Kinuthia had forced him to make decisions that are not professional, thus frustrating him in the process.

He also accused the suspect of lack of cooperation which subvert requirements of the flow of justice process.

"I have decided to decline to continue representing my client in the matter due to his lack of cooperation. It is unfortunate that my client is not ready to follow my advice as defence lawyer," Kenei stated.

High Court Judge Stephen Githinji who is presiding over the case regretted adjourning the case, even after the prosecution lined up 8 witnesses.

"As a judge, I was ready to listen to all witnesses bearing in mind this case has been pending for the last one year," Justice Githinji stated.

Mrs. King'ori disputed the postponement, especially having travelled to Eldoret for the hearing of the case.

Lawyer Ndegwa expressed his displeasure and dissatisfaction with the manner in which the defence was handling the case.
