Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has taken jabs at ODM leader Raila Odinga, along with several others over their declarations to contest for the presidency in the 2022 General Elections.
Taking to social media, the Senior Counsel chairperson stated that as of today, June 11, 2021, only Deputy President William Ruto had openly and publicly made his presidential bid known, alleging that Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, Wycliffe Oparanya and others, are waiting on President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"So, as of Friday 11 June 2022 the only person to declare his candidature for the August 2022 Presidential election is DP Ruto.
"Hon Raila, Mudavadi, Musyoka, PK, Gideon, Wetangula, Mwalimu Dida, Governor Joho, Oparanya etc. are all waiting for H.E Uuru's WhatsApp message!!!" He stated.
Appearing on Citizen TV's JKLive, the lawyer had argued that the former Prime Minister has lost his former glory.
When asked on the possibility of a DP Ruto-Odinga coalition, Abdullahi stated that the former premier does not bring anything to the table in such a situation.
“What will Raila bring to the table in a union with Ruto? He brings nothin. Raila is not the potent political force he was prior to the handshake. The handshake in my view damaged him a lot; he became a poodle, a stooge,” he remarked.
Abdullahi argued that Odinga's candidature is premised on contesting against the deputy president in next year's polls.
He reiterated that the former premiers allegiance to President Kenyatta had hurt his profile.
Earlier this year, the ODM Party advertised the position of party flagbearer in the 2022 general elections. On the March 31 deadline, the party announced that only Governors Oparanya and Joho had applied, revealing that Odinga did not apply.
The former premier later issued a statement, noting that there are more important matters to be tackled at the moment, primarily, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
KANU Leader Moi, ANC's Mudavadi, Wiper-Kenya's Kalonzo, and FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula together formed the One Kenya Alliance, but are yet to unveil their lineup ahead of the 2022 general polls.
