Deputy President William Ruto has lashed out at ODM leader Raila Odinga over his stand on the cost of the anticipated BBI referendum.
DP Ruto took issue with Mr Odinga's continued criticism of the electoral body, IEBC saying the former Prime Minister was unrealistic, accusing him of lying to Kenyans.
He said Mr Odinga's estimates of having a the BBI referendum at a cost of Ksh2 Billion were unfounded as he appealed to have consensus on the proposals in the report.
"When he was Prime Minister in 2010, the referendum cost us Ksh10 Billion. At the time, we had 12 Million voters. Today, we have 20 million voters. How can you tell us it will cost us Ksh2 Billion? How are you doing your maths?" queried DP Ruto.
He asked the ODM leader to welcome deliberations on the BBI report and avert a contestation over constitutional amendments. He said if uncontested, funds meant for the poll will be channelled towards development.
