Kakamega School has announced that students will be allowed back at the institution from November 15, 2021, one week after it was shut down following an early morning fire that razed down two dormitories.

In a memo dated November 11, 2021, the school management noted that after auditing the damages, it has been established that it will cost Sh21 million to repair the destroyed infrastructure.

According to a breakdown issued by the school management, Sh12.1 million will go to repairing burnt dormitories, Sh4.1 million will cater for purchase of double decker beds for the students, Sh695,000 will be for installation of CCTVs while Sh4.5 million be channeled towards purchasing damaged items for the affected 560 students.

In view of the above, the school management directed that each of the 2, 200 students pay Sh9,823 before reporting back on November 15.


Additionally, the school noted that students will be admitted back in phases, beginning with Form Fours on November 15; Form Ones on November 21; Form Twos on November 23, and Form Threes on November 25.

Kakamega School is among tens of secondary schools that have been closed across the country due to unrest which has led to arson in most of the cases.

Other schools that have been closed indefinitely include Maranda Boys and Bunyore Girls among others.
