Meanwhile, there has been a series of exits from BBC Africa over the past few months. A month ago, one of its senior presenters Sharon Machira resigned.

"I would like to let you know that Sharon Machira, senior presenter at BBC Africa will be leaving the BBC at the end of this month. She will be moving on to pursue a new opportunity.

"Her last day at the BBC will be on the 15th of October 2021," an email sent to staff read in part.

Machira’s resignation came two months after BBC Africa boss Solomon Mugera ended his 22-year reign at the media house.

“After 22 years, Solomon Mugera has decided to leave the BBC and explore pastures new,” said the memo seen by Nairobileo.co.ke.

Mr Mugera would later be appointed Director Communications and External Relations at the Africa Development Bank (ADB) after resigning from BBC.
