Emotions ran high on Tuesday at the Kasarani Gymnasium as Deputy President William Ruto delivered his speech during UDA’s National Delegates Conference (NDC).
As the second in command gave his speech, he was forced to pause at some point after the UDA delegates interrupted him with loud chants.
Chants of ‘yote ya yawezekana bila Uhuru’ filled the Kasarani indoor arena and as the chants dimmed, the DP replied with: ‘Thank you.’
In his speech, the DP directly hit at his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta saying that his second term was a waste as Jubilee lost its vision.
"Those who remained loyal to our founding vision within Jubilee were shunned, hounded, threatened and then persecuted. This is how we lost four years that would have gifted the brilliant blossoming of a beautiful dream which inspired millions of Kenyans in 2013," Dr Ruto stated.
Ruto said that after 2017 he was sent into the periphery as President Uhuru Kenyatta needed some space to work on his legacy.
“The president told me he needed space to work on his personal legacy. I obliged and this led to me being placed at the periphery. But during this 4 years I was away, I was able to talk to people in the villages and listen to them so that I can do what they want," he said.
The DP went ahead to send a message to his competitors saying that he was prepared to face them. He assured the delegates of a win in the upcoming polls.
“To our partners and opponents, we are prepared for you," Ruto stated.
The DP has been endorsed by UDA as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the August General Election.
