Cases of Kenyan men being drugged by the infamous ‘mchele’ were on the rise during the year, as several of them recounted losing money in entertainment joints.
Women prowling in entertainment joints caught unsuspecting men unawares before spiking their drinks, leaving them unconscious. The rest were bitter tales by the victims after they regained consciousness on how they lost their valuables.
But in a bizarre incident on April 23, four men turned out to be the 'masters' of the game after they preyed on a bus full of passengers, stupefying all the passengers on board.
In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the four, Stephen Odero, Benson Odero, Joshua Orengo, and Harrison Nyamu, had boarded the bus that was travelling from Kisumu to Nairobi.
However, as the bus approached Kabete Police Station along Waiyaki Way, the driver noticed that passengers were fast asleep as two people moved from seat to seat.

“But it is the snores reverberating from all corners of the bus that were unusually loud, punctuated by threatening growls that alarmed the driver, who immediately detoured to the police station situated along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway,” DCI stated.
Upon arrival, the raised alarm saying the bus was under attack before police officers in the station responded swiftly.
“What shocked the officers is that more than half the occupants were sleepy and drowsy, reeling from the effects of a stupefying substance that had been administered to them. Additionally, most of them had lost their valuables including Laptops, Tablets, Mobile Phones and cash money among other valuables,” DCI stated.
The police managed to single out the suspects after they found them in possession of the valuables.
Surprisingly, upon arresting them, they became drowsy making the police to rush them to a nearby hospital.
It was later determined that they had used the same substance they used to drug the passengers. The police then allowed the bus to continue with the journey and the passengers advised to seek medical advice.
The four suspects remained in police custody in processing for arraignment.
