Kenya is expected to host AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured the country that sporting facilities for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 will be completed on time.

In a statement issued by the CS after meeting President William Ruto and CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, it was revealed that renovations of the Kasarani Stadium would be completed in December 2024.

Similarly, the renovations of Nyayo Stadium will be completed before January 2025.

On the other hand, the 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium, which is under construction at the Jamhuri ground along Ngong Road, is expected to be completed in December 2025.

"I assured the President that we're pulling out all the stops to complete the renovation of MISC, Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium by December 2024 for CHAN and the construction of Talanta Sports City Stadium by December 2025 in readiness for AFCON 2027," read the statement in part.

"Dr Motsepe reiterated his satisfaction with our pace of progress and expressed his confidence that together with Uganda and Tanzania, we will stage world-class tournaments."

Kenya is expected to host AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The three countries had bid together to win the hosting rights of the tournament that is held every two years.

Notably, Kenya is eying to host either the opening ceremony or the closing ceremony at the Talanta Stadium.

Some of the features of the stadium under construction include modern changing rooms, conference rooms, commentator sections among others.
