The Mediamax journalist was shot on July 16 while covering the anti-government protests in Nakuru.

Mediamax journalist Catherine Wanjeri who was shot during the anti-government protests in Nakuru County now says she is not safe. 

Speaking to the press on Monday, September 2, Wanjeri said she received a phone call from an unidentified person who threatened her.

She noted that she was instructed to share the number that called her to anyone including the police.

“I feel like I am not safe being in Nakuru or anywhere in the country. It is funny how the person who called me when I landed in Nakuru and I was having a doctor’s appointment that day and gave me some information.

“They dared me not to share that number with anyone and since that day Nakuru has been a place where I don’t feel safe. There are vehicles that have been following me and it makes me feel not so safe and not comfortable,” Wanjeri stated.

The Mediamax journalist also revealed that she was afraid of getting out of her house and feared for the life of her family.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has condemned the alleged intimidation of the journalist and called for investigations to be conducted on the claims.

“This should be investigated, the media should not be intimidated especially a victim of police brutality,” Odhiambo stated.

Wanjeri was shot on July 16 when she was covering the anti-government protests in Nakuru. She was shot in the thigh three times despite wearing a press jacket and had a press card.

Wanjeri was rushed to the Valley Hospital in Nakuru where she received treatment and was discharged days later.
