Police in Mombasa County have dispersed protestors who had gathered in the city to demonstrate against the rising cases of abductions in the country.
In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke on Monday, December 30, Mombasa County Police Commander Peter Kimani told the protestors that the protests were illegal as the police had not been notified.
The police boss noted that there were no abductions in Mombasa County and urged those who wanted to protest to do so in Nairobi.
"Is there an abduction in Mombasa? Do you have an OB for an abduction in Mombasa? Then why are you protesting here? You should go and demonstrate in Nairobi. Show me the permit. You are illegally here,” Kimani told the protestors.
This comes as the situation in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) remained tense on Monday, with protesters taking to the streets in large numbers.

Many businesses were closed as police patrolled major streets in the city. Protestors carried placards as they marched through the streets.
At some point, they were forced to lob tear gas canisters to disperse the protestors.
On December 29, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) expressed concerns over the recent reports of abductions, calling for immediate investigations into the incidents.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, directed the Inspector General of Police and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to expedite investigations and submit reports for review and potential action within three days.
