Kenya has deployed an additional 144 police officers to join the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.
The officers who arrived in Haiti’s Capital, Port-au-Prince on Thursday evening include 24 officers from the elite all-female SWAT team.
The SWAT team is a highly skilled tactical unit bringing specialized expertise to the field and is expected to enhance operations as they collaborate with the Haitian National Police (HNP).

This is the fourth contingent of Kenyan officers that have been deployed to Haiti bringing the total number of Kenyan officers in the gang-stricken nation to 744.
The Kenyan government had pledged to send 1,000 personnel to the Caribbean nation to combat gangs and restore peace.
This comes days after the MSS in Haiti welcomed a contingent from El Salvador, which brought specialized air support capabilities to the mission.
While seeing off the fourth contingent on Wednesday night, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen said Kenya’s leadership in the mission is in recognition of the country’s long-standing contribution to peacekeeping missions and peace support operations.
“Kenya’s leadership in this noble mission, which is supported by the UN Trust Fund for Haiti established under the UN Security Council Resolution 2699, is in recognition of our long-standing contribution to peacekeeping missions and peace support operations,” said Murkomen.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto on Thursday night held a phone call conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and discussed the MSS mission in Haiti.
Ruto noted that Rubio confirmed to him that the US government has exempted its support for the mission from President Donald Trump’s directive to pause all foreign aid.
“Our discussion confirmed that the United States has specifically exempted its support for the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti from the broader pause on federal assistance, recognising the critical need to sustain momentum for the mission and its role in stabilising Haiti and restoring order,” Ruto stated.
