Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has withdrawn from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections in Mombasa, citing manipulation and interference by top party leadership.
In a statement on Thursday, April 10, the MP accused the UDA Secretary General of interference and handpicking of officials which he claimed undermines the democratic process within the party.
"As we embark on this year’s journey, I hope this pertinent message finds each of you energized and ready for the challenges ahead. First things first, I must address a matter of significant concern that requires our immediate attention.
"It has become unequivocally clear that the upcoming Mombasa’s grassroots elections have been compromised and hence, it is quite unfortunate that #TeamMohamedAli will not be taking any part in them," he said.

Ali expressed concern over what he termed as a profound conflict of interest, accusing the SG of prioritizing his personal interests over the will of the people.
"The SG’s blatant interference, his evident handpicking of officials to manipulate the outcome, represents nothing but a profound conflict of interest.
"His tendency to micromanage the party, prioritizing his personal political interests over the will of the people, is not only unacceptable but a grave disservice to the citizens of Mombasa," he added.
Despite the new development, Ali assured his supporters of his commitment to fighting for their interests, further hinting at a possible mass exit if the mismanagement continues.
"Despite this disheartening development, I want to assure you all as my avid and loyal supporters that we will not be deterred nor fazed. When the right moment comes and the rubber hits the road, we will confront this head-on.
"UDA, like any political party, belongs to the people, not to any single individual, regardless of their position. If he persists in treating the party as his personal property, we will be left with no choice but to decamp as one. After all, we are for the people and our allegiance will always remain steadfastly with the people," he concluded.
