The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has cautioned motorists against driving while under the influence.
In a statement on Friday, April 18, the authority revealed that 19 cases of traffic violations were recorded along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in an operation conducted on Thursday night.
Among the offences noted was that there were drivers who were driving while drunk.
Therefore, NTSA warned that the night operations would continue across the country until the incidents of drunk driving are eradicated from the roads.
"19 cases of traffic violations, including drunk driving, were recorded along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway on Thursday night. Being a responsible driver is simple: if you are drinking, do not drive," NTSA warned.

"Night road safety audits will continue in various parts of the country until there are zero drunk-driving crashes on our roads."
Meanwhile, the government is set to implement the Drunk Driving Rules of 2025. The new regulations will impose hefty fines for those who drive under the influence.
Among the fines to be implemented are the suspension of driving licences.
“With this, we will be putting up to 1,000 breathalysers on our roads to curtail those of us who cannot control their drinking when they know they will be on the roads,” Transport CS Davis Chirchir announced.
“Any person who, when driving or attempting to drive or in charge of a motor vehicle on a road or other public place, is under the influence of an alcoholic drink or a drug beyond the prescribed limits shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of up to Ksh100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both."
