The Officer Commanding Central Police Station (OCS), Samson Talaam, has denied involvement in the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang.
OCS Talaam, who recorded a statement with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Wednesday, June 11, said Ojwang was brought to Central Police Station while in critical condition.
He also informed IPOA officials that he was summoned after Ojwang had already been booked into custody.
The OCS claimed that upon arrival, he found Ojwang in a bad state, and he, along with other officers from Central Police Station, rushed the blogger to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Talaam, through his lawyer Felix Keaton, further expressed willingness to cooperate fully with IPOA in the probe to ensure justice is served.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohamed Amin, while appearing before the Senate on Wednesday, said OCS Talaam should be treated as a prime suspect in Ojwang’s Murder.
Amin told the Senators that Taalam was the officer most responsible for what transpired the night Ojwang died in custody.
The DCI boss also noted that OCS Talaam declined to book Ojwang when he was presented at the station.
“It has further been confirmed that before the booking, the report office personnel called the OCS, and unfortunately, it is being said that he declined to book the suspect. Talaam is the Officer Commanding Central Police Station, and from the totality of things, he should be treated as the prime suspect in the matter,” said Amin.
Ojwang died while in police custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi following his arrest in Homa Bay County.
An autopsy conducted on Tuesday by Pathologist Bernard Midia revealed that Ojwang died as a result of a head injury and neck compressions.
