Liverpool star Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 after his Lamborghini flew off a road in northern Spain.

The Portuguese forward was with his 26-year-old Brother-Andre, who also died in the crash.

According to reports, the Lamborghini’s tyre burst while overtaking another car, veering the vehicle off the road into a crash that ended in a burst of flames.

Confirming the incident, the Portuguese Football Federation head Pedro Proenca expressed his condolences, requesting a minute of silence before their next game in the women’s European Championship in honor of the two football stars.

“Much more than an amazing player, with almost 50 internationalizations for the National A Team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all teammates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself.”

Jota, who married Rute Cardoso, his childhood sweetheart, ten days ago, is also a father of three. The family shared photos of their wedding online, which was a celebration held at Porto.
