The National Treasury has announced 244 job vacancies, inviting qualified Kenyans to apply for the position of senior economist/statistician.

According to the official advertisement, the position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging between Ksh52,330 and Ksh96,130. 

In addition to the basic pay, successful applicants will be entitled to a house allowance of Ksh35,000 per month, a commuter allowance of Ksh8,000, and a leave allowance of Ksh6,000 annually. 

The job is offered on permanent and pensionable terms.

To be considered for appointment, applicants must have served in the grade of Economist I/Statistician I for a minimum of three years. 

They must also hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Economics and Mathematics, Economics and Finance, or Economics and Statistics from a recognized institution.

Membership in a relevant professional body is also required, along with certification in computer application skills. 

Beyond academic qualifications, candidates must demonstrate merit and ability through past work performance.

Successful candidates will be expected to prepare sectoral policy briefs, reviews, and reports, and initiate the drafting of annual, mid-term, and end-term Medium Term progress reports. 

They will also be involved in implementing decisions related to regional economic integration and identifying emerging socioeconomic issues across various sectors.

Other key duties include undertaking economic modeling and forecasting, conducting Programme Performance Reviews (PPRs), and compiling sub-sector reports for the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). 

The economists/statisticians will also be tasked with maintaining and updating databases crucial for national planning, such as census data and key surveys. 

Furthermore, they will support capacity building for government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector players on planning and development matters, as well as participate in public dissemination of national policies and strategies.

Applicants are cautioned that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. 

Those selected for interviews will be required to present original copies of their national ID, academic certificates, and other supporting documents.

The National Treasury warned that presentation of fake certificates is a criminal offence and that canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
