Uhuru noted that the party had initially joined Azimio because of a shared vision for the country's future.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed the current status and future direction of the Jubilee Party within the Azimio La Umoja coalition, while outlining the party's preparations for upcoming electoral contests.

Speaking at the Jubilee Party National Delegates Convention on Friday, Uhuru confirmed that Jubilee Party continues to be a member of the Azimio coalition, despite significant changes within the coalition's membership over recent years.

He explained that the party had originally joined Azimio because of a shared vision for the country's future.

"When we last convened a National Delegates Conference prior to the 2022 general elections, the party resolved to become a member of the Azimio La Umoja coalition because I, as party leader then and now, was convinced that the coalition and its members shared a common vision for our country," Uhuru stated.

However, he acknowledged that the coalition has undergone substantial transformations since then.

"In the years since then, however, the Azimio coalition membership has undergone changes. I don't need to elaborate," he remarked.

In a significant development, Uhuru indicated that decisions about Jubilee's continued participation in Azimio would be left to the party's incoming leadership.

"Notwithstanding these changes and as we speak today, the party as per the decision of our organs remains a member of what is left of this coalition and any decision on whether to reinvest in it or leave it will be a decision for the party's new leadership to take when the time comes," he declared.

The former president made it clear that Jubilee Party is actively preparing for the next general election, emphasizing the party's commitment to fielding strong candidates across all elective positions.

"Make no mistake when I say that like any other political party, we shall be prepared, we shall be preparing for the next general election and doing so in earnest, and it remains our firm intention to field the best possible candidates for all elective positions," he stated. "We shall either do this on our own or we shall do this in concert with like-minded political movements," he explained.

This announcement comes against the backdrop of Uhuru's earlier revelations about the hostility his family faced following the 2022 General Election.

During the same convention, the former president had spoken about the difficult period after the contested polls, describing an atmosphere of antagonism directed at his party, family, and former administration.

He had also criticized the current government's approach to governance, particularly pointing to the discontinuation of programs like Linda Mama, which provided free maternal healthcare. Uhuru argued that untested policy experiments were reversing many gains achieved during Jubilee's decade in power.
