The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced a vacancy in the position of Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In an advertisement on Tuesday, October 7, KUCCPS invited interested and qualified candidates to apply for the position.
“To deliver its mandate, the Placement Service Board wishes to competitively recruit the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer to head its Secretariat,” the advert read in part.
The KUCCPS CEO is responsible to the placement board for the day-to-day management of the Corporation’s affairs, including the implementation of the Board’s policies, programmes, and strategies, in line with the law and government policy guidelines.
The CEO is tasked with being the accounting officer for the placement service, secretary to the board, overseeing development of long-term strategies, plans, and annual operating budget, ensuring prudent management of resources, and spearheading the development and implementation of performance contracts for the placement service.

Other tasks include: overseeing preparation and safe custody of board documents, facilitating communication between the board and management, advising the board on all policies and strategies related to the mandate of the placement service, and ensuring compliance with constitutional, statutory, and regulatory requirements in all activities of the service.
Further, the KUCCPS CEO should develop and nurture a team of highly motivated and talented human capital, provide leadership to senior management and staff, establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures, and oversee the preparation of annual budgets and work plans.
To qualify for the KUCCPS CEO position, candidates are required to have served for a cumulative period of 15 years, 5 of which must have been in a senior management position.
The applicants should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, a master’s degree from a recognized institution, a leadership course lasting not less than four weeks from a recognized institution, and membership with a relevant professional body, where applicable.
They should also have a valid practicing certificate where applicable, have proficiency in computer applications, demonstrate outstanding managerial and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results, and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

The successful candidate will hold the office for a term of five years, renewable once, subject to performance and retirement age.
The candidate will take over from Agnes Wahome, who has served as the KUCCPS CEO since 2021.
Wahome was appointed to the position by former Education CS, the late George Magoha, in February 2021.
Before being appointed, Wahome had served as the KUCCPS CEO in an acting capacity following the retirement of her predecessor, John Muraguri.
She joined the placement service in 2018 as the manager in charge of research and knowledge management.
