People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has dismissed a viral post attributed to her, terming it fake and misleading.

On Saturday, October 11, a graphic widely circulated on social media purported to quote Karua criticizing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s leadership style.

According to the post, Karua suggested that Gachagua's political approach 'alienates everyone who doesn’t bow to him.'

Karua has since clarified that she did not make such remarks; taking to her X account, she shared the image with a red "fake" label across it.

This comes months after Karua dismissed speculations that she is eyeing the National Assembly Speaker position in a proposed opposition lineup for the 2027 polls.

Speaking on Thursday, July 24, she said that she had already served four consecutive terms in Parliament and had no intention of returning to the legislature in any capacity.

"I was in Parliament for twenty years, serving four consecutive terms, and I ran for president in 2012 but did not succeed.

"I cannot return to Parliament in any capacity, whether as Speaker or anything else. I am satisfied with the twenty years I served in Parliament," she stated.

Karua further dismissed a 2027 opposition lineup doing rounds on social media, noting that the opposition camp is yet to reach an agreement.

"That lineup is just someone’s personal thoughts, because if there were an actual lineup involving the opposition principals, it would have been brought to the table for discussion.

"I am the co-convener together with Kalonzo Musyoka. We haven’t called for a meeting, nor have we been informed about it," she added.

Further, Karua ruled out the possibility of being a running mate in the 2027 General Election, stating that she would rather support someone else for the position.

"I closed the chapter on being a running mate in 2022. I would rather let someone else take the position," she remarked.

Around the same time, DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa dismissed claims of a fallout with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming the reports as fake news.

An image circulating online alleged that Wamalwa and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi had disagreed with Gachagua over the positioning of political parties and candidates.

However, in a statement on Thursday, August 28, Wamalwa refuted the claims, stating that the reports were fabricated and meant to cause unnecessary tension.

"No amount of fake news will shake the unity, resolve, and focus of Team #Wantam to beat Team #Tutam both in the coming by-elections and General elections! The die is cast," he wrote.
