President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday announced a mini-cabinet reshuffle affecting key ministries.

According to President Kenyatta, the re-organization will improve efficiency, institutionalizes the implementation of ongoing reforms, and introduces functional changes that shall make the relevant Ministries and State Departments more efficient and better able to deliver superlative services to the public.

"IN exercise of the presidential prerogative vested in the Head of State and Government under Article 132 of the Constitution, as read together with Articles 152 and 155 of the Constitution, HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT has instituted portfolio re-assignments in his Cabinet and in the ranks of Principal Secretaries," said the Head of State.

Affected CSs include;

  1. Amb. (Dr.) Monica Juma who has been moved to the Ministry of Energy.
  2. Hon. Charles Keter to the Ministry of Devolution.
  3. Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to the Ministry of Defense.
  4. Prof. Margaret Kobia Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs & Special Programmes.

Affected PSs include;

  1. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon O. Kihalangwa who has moved to State Department for Energy.
  2. Dr. (Eng.) Joseph K. Njoroge to the State Department for Transport.
  3. Mr. Solomon Kitungu to the State Department for Public Works.
  4. Mr. Nelson Marwa Sospeter to the State Department for Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs & Special Programmes.

In other changes, the State Department for ASALs and the State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens have been transferred to the Ministry of Public Service and Gender. 

The Department of Special Programmes has been transferred to the State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens Affairs and renamed as the State Department for Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes.

The Ministry of Devolution and The ASALs has been reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Devolution.

The Ministry of Public Service and Gender has also been reconstituted and renamed Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs & Special Programmes.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has been renamed as the Ministry of Labour.
