Seven prison warders have been arrested following the escape of three terror suspects from the Kamiti Maximum Prison on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Following the escape, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced a Ksh60 million reward, Ksh20 million for each suspect, on information that may lead to their arrest.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i after the incident stated that there was no way the convicts escaped the most secure prison in the country without aid.
Matiang'i assured that the police force will make more arrests and prosecutions.

The three terror suspects who escaped were identified as Musharraf Abdalla Akhulunga a.k.a Zarkarawi, Mohammed Ali Abikar, and Joseph Juma Odhiambo a.k.a Yusuf.
“We will not only go the direction investigations will point us but we will act resolutely to ensure this kind of recklessness does not happen again because it exposes our people. Definitely, there is a certain level of irresponsibility we have to deal with in this particular case,” Matiangi said.
The CS assured protection from the government for members of the public who will blow the whistle on the escaped convicts.
“We are all mobilized and we have sent messages across the country and all exit and possible movement points out of the country. We are going to conduct a massive manhunt for those three. They are dangerous criminals and we have to get them. And we are going to get them," he said.
Matiang'i assured Kenyans that security forces are on high alert, urging them not to panic.
Abikar was charged and convicted in 2019 over his ties to Al-Shabaab and for abetting the Garissa University attack of April 2015 that left 148 people dead. Odhiambo was arrested in 2019 for trying to join the terror network.
Akhulunga was arrested in 2012 over a foiled attack on Kenya’s parliament and charged with possessing explosives, ammunition and firearms.
