City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has said that the recent expose done by former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was confirmation of the rampant corruption in Kenyan courts, which lawyers have been crying about.
In a series of tweets, the lawyer said that Sonko’s expose is the biggest scandals in Kenyan courts and the Chief Justice must address the nation and say what she has been doing to stop corruption in the courts.
“This weekend I watched ALL the #sonkoleaks. I'm least surprised. Just confirms the cries of lawyers about runaway corruption in our courts. This is the biggest scandal in our courts. SOME judges are taking bribes left, right & centre. CJ @CJMarthaKoome MUST address the country and tell us what she will do about this runaway corruption,” he said.
He went on to accuse the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of laxity and covering up for judges accused of taking bribes.
He also accused CJ Koome of turning a blind eye on grand corruption in the courts as he called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and all Kenyans of goodwill to help do away with the vice.

“The false sense of normalcy in our courts & false posture of business as usual has been chattered by the #sonkoleaks. @jsckenya has shown that sleeps on the job & is master in cover up. Because of the failure of both the Chief Justice and the JSC...it is the right time that H.E UHURU and all Kenyans of goodwill must try to help flush out corrupt judges.”
“Kenyans will recall that a while ago I blew the whistle on how a judge of the Supreme Court received Kshs. 220 Million. The judiciary refused to investigate the matter. The #sonkoleaks shows that the courts are epicenter of corruption and we paying the price of the legacy of CJ Maraga who refused to address corruption in courts. Unfortunately CJ Koome is also turning a blind eye to grand corruption in the courts,” Ahmednasir added.
In the expose by Sonko, two judges of the High Court and a number of advocates engaged in malpractices that may have influenced rulings.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) called for investigations into the matter.
CJ Martha Koome in a statement said that the judiciary had taken note of the video and the JSC would meet to deliberate on the issue according to its constitution and statutory set procedures.
