Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu has extended the tenure of the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) by six months.
The contract between Nairobi County Government and NMS was set to expire in February this year but it will now run until August.
Speaking on the same, Kananu noted that she extended the contract to allow NMS to complete pending projects before the county takes over.
"To address the speculations that are happening concerning the extension of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services. I want to put on record that I extended their contract for six months because I did not want them to leave their projects uncompleted
"So I have given them six months to ensure all the projects they started are completed," Governor Kananu said.

NMS was formed in March 2020 with Major General Mohamed Badi as Director-General.
Three months after launching NMS, President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the NMS in implementing the directives he gave to the new agency during its launch.
"I issued several directives to the NMS to achieve within the first 100 days, which period ended on Saturday, 28th June. The directives were aimed at enhancing service provision in the areas of waste collection and disposal, water and sanitation, housing and urban development, transport and public works
"I am satisfied that the directives for the first 100 days have been implemented in earnest,” the President said.
Badi said the NMS had created new jobs by employing youth and street families in its projects through the government’s 'Kazi Mtaani' initiative.
“On the re-carpeting of CBD roads, NMS has completed 30 per cent of all the roads using the Kazi Mtaani initiative. To this end, NMS has engaged our youth in drainage clearing, waste management and rehabilitation of roads,” he said
