Passengers using Kenya Airways flights to fly to different destinations will experience service disruption for the next two weeks.
In a notice issued by the national carrier on Friday, December 8, the disruption is due to a shortage of spare parts globally forcing them to ground some of their planes.
KQ Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka explained to the passengers that the extended grounding time is one of the safety precautions taken by the airline to ensure efficient service delivery despite the challenge.
“Our current flight schedule may experience disruptions in the coming weeks mainly due to challenges in the aircraft spare parts global supply chain. These challenges are leading to extended ground time for our aircraft for maintenance. Additionally, this may also lead to grounding one or more of our aircraft in line with our commitment to the highest level for safety and reliability of our operations," the national carrier announced.

"We anticipate that these circumstances may persist for approximately two weeks, and we want to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during this time. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we are dedicated to resolving these issues as quickly and efficiently as possible," it added.
Following the announced flight disruptions, Kenya Airways advised customers to check the website for regular updates.
This is due to the rescheduling of flights expected to be experienced in the coming weeks extending into the festive season.
However, Kenya Airways apologized for the inconveniences caused by the disruption but vowed to meet the customers' demand during the festive season.
"We are committed to providing you with timely information and support to help you navigate these potential challenges. Please be assured that our team is working tirelessly to minimize these disruptions and to keep you informed every step of the way," KQ reiterated.
on Tuesday, December 12, Kenya Airways announced that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner had resumed operations. According to the national carrier, the plane is expected to reduce the earlier announced plane disruption.
"Our Boeing 787 Dreamliner is back in action, significantly restoring normal operations. We're working hard to expedite spare parts deliveries for a seamless travel experience," KQ announced.
