The Vihiga senator was absent during President William Ruto's visit to the county.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Ososti has condemned an incident where Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo was heckled during President William Ruto's development tour of the county.

In a statement on Friday, January 24, Ososti noted that it was sad that a development tour was turned into a scene of heckling and name-calling.

The lawmaker claimed that Vihiga residents were peace-loving citizens and called upon leaders in the county to desist from mobilizing hecklers and spearhead political tolerance.

"I am deeply concerned and dismayed by the unfortunate happenings at the groundbreaking event of Luanda Modern Market on Wednesday. It is very sad that an event styled as a development tour was turned into a theatre of heckling, name-calling, and absurdity before the Head of State and his entourage," Osotsi stated.

He added, "I call upon my fellow leaders in the county to desist from fueling divisive negative culture and spearhead political tolerance. We must understand that you cannot lead people through application of archaic methods. We should all promote political tolerance even as we hold divergent opinions and ideologies."

The senator, however, said the governor's silence towards the demolition of traders' stalls in Luanda, which he attributed to the incident, was regrettable.

"It is worth noting that traders lamented that Governor Wilber Otichillo became the victim of heckling and jeers from an aggrieved lot who questioned his silence in matters affecting them. The governor's silence in the matter is regrettable and should be addressed with urgency," he remarked.

The incident came even as Ososti announced earlier that he would not be present during the president's visit to his county.

The lawmaker said that he was on an international developmental tour in Europe, making it impossible for him to be present during the visit.
