The NTSA messages detail where the offence was committed and the exact speed of the vehicles.

Details of an SMS system tracking overspeeding vehicles on the roads have been revealed by a section of city motorists.

Through their X accounts, various motorists on Thursday, November 29, detailed how they received SMS alerts from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) after overspeeding along various roads in the capital.

In the shared messages, NTSA alerted the drivers that they were going above the set limit.

The messages also detail where the offence was committed and the exact speed of the vehicles as captured by the speed cameras.

A timestamp of the offence is also included in the message.

"Warning: Violation of Section 42(1) of the Traffic Act. Your vehicle with Reg XXX was captured driving at a speed of 138 kph exceeding the speed limit of 110 kph on KIAMBAA on 2024-11-22 at 13:57:08. Slow down, fika salama," read the SMS alert.

However, despite the move to have a road safety alert system, some motorists complained that the system was not accurate in instances where someone lends their vehicles to another.

"NTSA doing this on Redhill Road and Southern Bypass. I was not driving it. Someone else was with the car," X user Kamau wa Rally lamented.

Notably, the new system some amidst plans by the government to roll out a system that will implement instant fines for traffic offenders.

The new system will involve the installation of cameras across major roads to capture various offences.
