Simon Mutite has been released, three months after he was allegedly abducted in Laikipia County.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 11, Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo confirmed that Mutite had been released and reunited with his family.
“Mr. Simon Mutite has been released after being held incommunicado for more than 3 months. He is safe with his family but remains petrified by his ordeal. We will extend the necessary legal and psychosocial support to him and the family,” Odhiambo stated.
This comes weeks after the LSK President was asked by Mutite’s family to provide legal aid following his alleged abduction.
Mutite is said to have been picked up by officers from the Special Operations Unit in Timau Laikipia on October 22, 2024.

“Today, Faith Odhiambo President of the Law Society of Kenya, received and provided legal aid to a distressed family seeking justice for their relative, Mr. Simon Mutite, who was allegedly abducted by members of the Special Operations Unit in Timau Laikipia on October 22, 2024,” LSK said in a statement on January 20.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on January 19 condemned Mutite’s abduction and called on the government to bring to an end the abduction of Kenyans.
"I have been told that in Laikipia North, some people have been abducted, including someone named Simon Mutite. Abduction is a serious issue and a sign of disrespect to Kenyans. We would like to tell the government to stop such actions, there is no need to harm our children,” Gachagua stated.
