“These two women, for me, are my heroines, these are the two last lines of defense in this country."

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has lauded the Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o and Auditor General Nancy Gathungu for raising critical issues that affect Kenyans.

Speaking on Wednesday, March 5 while appearing on Citizen TV’s JKLive Show, Onyonka said the two women are his personal heroines.

He pointed out that the issues raised by Nyankang’o and Gathungu cannot be easily handled by most men.

“These two women, for me, are my heroines, these are the two last lines of defense in this country. If you look at the issues they are raising, not many of us as men can deal with them,” said Onyonka.

President William Ruto’s economic advisor Moses Kuria who was also in the interview pulled a tribal card against the Kisii senator accusing him of defending Nyakang’o because she is from his community.

“I have a lot of respect for Madam Nyakang’o notwithstanding the fact that Senator Onyonka has defended her publicly in the past on tribal grounds,” Kuria remarked.

The Kisii Senator in response argued that he defended Nyankang’o because of her professional conduct and the work she has done.

“Any Kenyan, when you are pushed to the corner, you bring your tribe. There was no tribe here. Has she been a professional who has done her job impeccably? Yes,” Onyoka stated.

This comes days after Gathungu revealed that the government does not own nor control the Ksh104.8 billion Social Health Authority (SHA) system.

In a report, the auditor General disclosed that a consortium owns the system, its components, and all intellectual property rights.

“The ownership of the system, system components and all intellectual property rights shall remain in the ownership of the consortium except for the infrastructure which is to be transferred to the procurement,” the report read in part.

On Tuesday President William Ruto confirmed that the SHA system is run by a consortium noting that the move is to ensure the integrity of SHA and prevent fraudulent claims.
