Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, May 17, claimed that President William Ruto is sponsoring 3 political parties in the Mt Kenya region in a move to split the region’s vote in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Saturday in Murang’a county, Gachagua claimed that President Ruto is sponsoring Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK), Mwangi Kiunjuri’s TSP, and CS William Kabogo’s Tujibebe Party.
The former DP also alleged that President Ruto is planning to start two new parties in Mt Kenya and sponsor presidential candidates from the region.
"Ruto is planning to start many parties in Mt Kenya. There are already parties like the one by Moses Kuria, that's Ruto's party; the one by Kiunjuri is another Ruto's party; the one by Kabogo is also Ruto’s party. There are two more parties he is planning to start in Murang’a. If you hear of a newly registered party that is not DCP, just know that it is Ruto's party,” Gachagua stated.
“We know him very well — he even wants to sponsor our youths to run for president, so that he can give them money and split our votes.”

Gachagua called on Mt Kenya residents to join his newly launched Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
He said the party, which has its roots in Mt Kenya, will join with other regions in the country to form the next government.
“We have our own party, DCP, and we will join hands with other Kenyans. The stronghold of the DCP party is Mt. Kenya,” Gachagua added.
In a response to Gachagua’s claims, President William Ruto’s senior adviser in the Council of Economic Advisors, Moses Kuria, warned the former DP against starting a ‘war’ he cannot finish.
Kuria also demanded respect from Gachagua, saying he is his political senior.
“You have said CCK is a Kasongo party. You are misleading our people yet again to vandalize parties we have nurtured for 4 years, when you were blindly in love with William Ruto. I will not take it lying down. Do not start a war you cannot win. Focus on your political age mates like Kimani Ichungwa. I am your political senior, my friend. Respect your elders,” Kuria stated.
