Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has advised famous Mugithi musician Samidoh Muchoki against getting pulled into political influence.

Speaking to a gathering of Kenyans in the US on Saturday, July 12,  the DCP party leader encouraged Samidoh, among other musicians from the Mt Kenya region, to focus on their music careers.

"We really love Samidoh's music. And you know, the other day they were trying to coerce these musicians to go and sing for them and lie to the people of Kenya that SHA is working. And I told them, “You musicians, that is not your work. Your work is to sing for us so that we can sleep well. Your work is to entertain us when we are relaxing, trying to cope with what Kasongo has put us through. So there is no way you can side with Kasongo and then come to sing to the same people who are frustrated by Kasongo, is there?

"And these musicians, especially those from our region, 90% of their songs (and that’s why we like them) are about love and relationships. Stick to that agenda. It’s a good agenda. It’s about love, courtship, broken marriages, the normal things of life," Rigathi Gachagua told the Kenyan diaspora community in the US.

Samidoh was transferred from the central region police headquarters to the Administration Police's Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

In a past interview, Gachagua revealed that he discouraged the Kikuyu musician from taking up that transfer.

"I told Samidoh your salary is Ksh40,000, and you make Ksh400,000 every weekend. In a month, you make Ksh1.6 million. Will you lose your life in Baragoi for Ksh40,000? Why don't you leave this job?  - Gachagua posed.

In June, the National Police Service reportedly initiated disciplinary measures against Samidoh, accusing him of failing to report to his new post at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

Reports indicated that the singer had not reported for duty since May 27, 2025, prompting the suspension of his salary and the issuance of an arrest order over alleged desertion.

However, it would later emerge that Samidoh had been granted official permission to travel to the United States for a private visit.

Samidoh is currently in the United States on a musical tour, while Gachagua is also in the country, meeting Kenyans in the diaspora as part of his ongoing engagements to gather support in efforts to oust President William Ruto from office come 2027.
