People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has revealed she called Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga after the July 7 Saba Saba protests.
Speaking on Wednesday, July 23, Karua said she asked the former Prime Minister to withdraw his support for the government.
The PLP leader said she questioned Raila about where his conscience was when Kenyans were being killed during the protests.
“Looking at what was happening, after Saba Saba, I called him (Raila) to ask him a question. I asked him, as a person who has, throughout most of his life, fought for Kenyans, how his conscience sits with the continuous blood-letting by the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“I told him I did not want a discussion; I just wanted to leave it with him. Isn’t it time for him to reconsider his support for the KK regime? Isn’t it time for him to withdraw? And I reminded him that without him, the regime would crumble, that even parliament will be able to sanction him,” Karua stated.

She explained that she did not want to discuss anything else with the ODM leader but felt compelled to question Raila’s conscience, as someone who has historically championed the rights of the people.
Karua said the former premier, during the phone call, mentioned being misunderstood about the national conclave proposal.
She further disclosed that Raila suggested they have a face-to-face meeting, but she declined the invitation.
“He did suggest that we should have a face-to-face meeting, and I told him I was off to the US and was not in favor of a meeting,” Karua added.
