Oburu praised the UDA and ODM teams that worked hard to deliver the victories in the just-concluded by-elections.

ODM leader Oburu Oginga has implied that the Orange party might sustain its partnership with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 vote.

Oburu, in his first statement after returning from Dubai, cited the success of the ruling UDA and ODM parties in the just-concluded by-elections.

The parties won all the MP seats that were in contestation.

Speaking at the wedding of Noordin Haji's son in Garissa on Saturday, November 29, Oburu noted that ODM and UDA would be a force to reckon with if they chose to work together.

"I would like to thank the UDA and ODM teams for working hard and seeing that we sweep the seats in the by-elections. We have proven wrong those who had doubts in the power of the broad-based team. If broad-based government doesn't exist, how then did we win the by-elections?" Oburu posed.

The Siaya senator, while acknowledging that the broad-based arrangement has its deadline in 2027, hinted at a continued partnership with the president.

He suggested that the recent events point to a united faction that can't be defeated.

"Raila left us in the broad-based government. We will continue working with the president until the end. We know the term ends in 2027, but from the look of things, you shall see how things will align. We are together and we pray for the president," he said.

ODM is currently sharply divided on the partnership with the president, with factions holding onto their tough stances.

The opposers of the arrangement argue that the party has the capacity to put up a good performance in the 2027 general election with a presidential candidate.

Before his death, the late Raila Odinga was categorical that ODM would remain in the government until 2027 but wasn't quick to endorse Ruto's re-election bid, despite the many indications.

In his last public address on September 22, Raila castigated a section of members of the party who had declared their support for the president.

Raila stated that whilst ODM is committed to the broad-based government, the party was yet to settle on who it would support or whether it would field its own candidate.
