Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged families whose members have been abducted to report the cases to the police.

Speaking in Bungoma County on Friday, December 28, the CS also called on the families and Kenyans to provide accurate details surrounding the disappearance of those abducted.

He noted that the police would verify the cases and conduct investigations to establish the whereabouts of the missing persons.

On the other hand, he pledged to support the police during the investigations.

"I want to request the families, neighbours and friends of people who are said to be unaccounted for to report the same to the police.

"We will support the police to ensure that they do thorough investigations to establish the whereabouts of those citizens," he stated.

Meanwhile, he expressed confidence in the National Police Service (NPS) which has distanced itself from the abductions.

According to Murkomen, NPS was an independent body and there is no avenue for the executive to give orders to the police on how they should carry out their mandate.

"As a government, we do not have a policy of enforced disappearance of critics, and every act of criminality is addressed within the confines of the law," he added.

"We value constructive criticism, but we must also safeguard against endangering the peace of the country and the rights of others through cybercrime."

Murkomen made the remarks at a time when President William Ruto also pledged to end the abductions while also calling on parents to guide their children.

"Every parent should take care of their children. As a government, we will do our part and end the abductions so that the young people of Kenya can live in peace and be disciplined,” Ruto stated while in Homa Bay County.
