The US Embassy in Nairobi has cautioned its citizens over protests planned for Monday, January 6 across parts of the country.
In its demonstration alert, the Embassy noted that there was a possibility that the peaceful protests would turn violent.
The Embassy also warned of increased police checkpoints which could result in traffic disruptions along major roads in Nairobi and across the country.
"There have been calls for nationwide anti-government protests across Kenya on Monday, January 6, 2025. Demonstrations in central business districts across the country and potential road blockages of major thoroughfares are possible," read the statement in part.

"Protests that seem peaceful can turn violent at any moment. Police checkpoints and traffic disruptions can be expected."
Consequently, US citizens in Kenya were urged to monitor media reports before using major roads.
US citizens were also advised to avoid crowds and keep doors locked and windows rolled up while in a vehicle.
On the other hand, they were also called upon to ensure that they carry passports.
"Notify friends and family of your whereabouts and safety. Review your personal security plans," read the advisory in part.
A section of Kenyans had planned demonstrations for Monday following the recent abductions. Notably, some of the young men who were allegedly abducted were released in the morning.
Those who have reunited with their families include Billy Mwangi and Peter Muteti.
