The Ministry of Interior has revealed plans to roll out the 'Jukwaa La Usalama' programme that will be implemented across the country.

In an explainer on Wednesday, April 16, the Ministry explained that the programme was a citizen-centred initiative that the Ministry aims to use to engage Kenyans on various issues facing them.

Apart from engaging with the citizens, the Ministry strives to use the programme to enhance public trust and boost the performance of security officers.

"Jukwaa la Usalama provides communities with a formal space to express concerns, share experiences, and propose solutions directly to security and administrative officials. It places emphasis on participation, mutual accountability, and long-term reform," read the statement in part.

"Jukwaa la Usalama is an innovative citizen-led model. A scalable, adaptable governance framework that puts citizens at the centre of security advocacy and action."

Already, the programme was piloted at the Coast with Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen spearheading the initiative.

"Key issues raised included violent extremism and youth radicalisation, drug and substance abuse, land disputes and tenure insecurity, gender-based violence, youth unemployment, infrastructure and security response gap," the Ministry revealed.

"Government responses included community-centric counter-radicalisation programs, creation of the Coast Region Anti-Narcotics Task Force and formation of a special land dispute resolution task force."
