A team of officers undertaking a security operation was attacked, leaving one dead.

A police officer succumbed to injuries after being attacked while on duty in Trans Nzoia County.

According to a report seen by Nairobi Leo, the deceased was in the company of his colleagues on Friday evening, December 5, as they undertook a security operation.

Constable Patrick Ouma was the driver of the police squad when they encountered a group of youth.

They were intercepted in the Malewa area, where the driver was stabbed in the neck, sustaining serious injuries.

"They were pursuing murder suspects within Matisi Township. Upon reaching the Malewa area, they encountered a group of armed youths, during which one suspect, identified as Moses Odhiambo Okuwa, stabbed Patrick Ouma on the neck, inflicting critical injuries," the report indicated.

A police officer was killed in Kitale during a security operation.

Officers from the Matisi Police Station showed up to reinforce the team as they faced off with the armed group.

The injured officer died upon arriving at the hospital.

"The injured officer was rushed to Cherangani Nursing Home, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was preserved at the same facility pending autopsy and further investigations," the report indicated further.

Several suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.

"A total of twenty-three suspects were arrested during the operation, including the two main perpetrators, and were detained at Kitale Police Station. Several officers expended ammunition during the engagement," the report added.

The incident came months after another one in Nakuru.

In June, a police officer lost his life while two colleagues were injured following an assault by an armed gang in Nakuru’s Freehold estate.

The trio had been conducting a patrol at about 1:29 a.m. when the attackers ambushed them.

The injured officers were quickly taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities apprehended two individuals linked to the assault on the police officers, as efforts to track down the other suspects paced up at the time.
